Detoxification and cleansing the body of harmful toxins is often considered a fringe element of Vegetarians. The fact is individuals often don’t want to accept that harmful toxins build up in their arteries or their colons. They do not want to accept that detoxification is necessary. These toxins build up often as a result of partaking of a carnivorous diet. As a result of a diet that is high in fat and consists of processed foods our digestive systems slow down drastically and our elimination processes can be seriously interrupted.
This, in turn, allows toxins and harmful bacteria to accumulate and this can produce a host of digestive disorders, such as colitis or irritable bowel syndrome, as well as a general feeling of sluggishness. We can, however, encourage the process of natural detoxification. When we begin to eat a more healthy vegetarian diet, more dietary fiber starts to get into our system and suddenly, our digestive system starts to work better and detoxification begins to occur naturally.
When high-fat meat and processed foods are eliminated from your diet, then much of the intense work and use of energy your body has to undergo to digest these foods is freed up. You can then experience things becoming much clearer – your organs, your blood and your mind. It is then you start to become more aware of the unhealthy toxic nature of the food you had been eating previously.
In the twentieth century toxicity is giving us much greater concern than ever before. We now have nuclear power, air and water pollution and radiation. There are also many new and stronger chemicals. Now more than ever before
