This article discusses the Notion that
You are what you eat

  You are what you eat

You will no doubt have heard the expression, “You are
what you eat.” Have you ever given any thought to what
that statement could mean?  If you have pondered it do
you take it into consideration when you are making
   choices with regard to food?

It is true in some ways that we do literally ‘become what
we eat’. You only have to see an example of your blood
plasma after having just eaten fast food, say for example
a hamburger? You will find that what is normally a clear
liquid becomes clouded with the cholesterol and fat that is
   absorbed from the high-fat hamburger.

The opposite is also true, if you think about it.  We also
‘become what we don’t eat’.  When we change from
eating meats etc. to a vegetarian-based diet, we lose
excess fat, become less prone to many types of cancers
   and our cholesterol generally decreases.

You will discover that many other health and fitness issues are reduced when you are
eating fewer animal products and have become leaner. Your blood pressure falls into the normal range and the incidence of Type II diabetes is very much reduced. This often has the advantage, now you are healthier, that you can reduce

the number of medications that you have to take.  Even if you have a prescription drug
benefit in your health plan, you are still saving money with fewer co-payments on
    medications.

If high cholesterol or high blood pressure runs in your family, then it is even more
important for your to revise your eating habits.  Statistically it has been shown that
changing your eating habits and following more closely to a vegetarian diet can reduce the
incidence of so many of the diseases known in the industrialized world. It has been
proved statistically that Vegetarians are healthier than people who are omnivorous; they
are leaner and have the tendency to live longer.

If you are now convinced that ‘you are what you eat’ by now you will be thinking that it is
time to consider what you want to be and to revise your eating habits accordingly?  Do
you want to be tired and sluggish?  Do you want to continue to be overweight with all the
potential health problems that go along with that?  Do you want the risk that is associated
with eating animal products, i.e. high blood pressure and high cholesterol, induced by their
high fat content? Or do you want the advantages of taking on a vegetarian lifestyle.  To
look like and be what vegetarians are? To become leaner and fitter with a potentially
   longer life span.

Remember is is never too late to alter your eating habits and change your lifestyle in order
to increase your opportunity of a longer, healthier life. Because ‘You are What you eat’
